Robotic Vehicle Technology
Odisha-based startup Bon V Aero has introduced Air Orca, an autonomous logistics drone service designed to advance India’s logistics capabilities. The launch, attended by venture capitalist Tim Draper, showcased Bon V Aero’s commitment to innovative, indigenous technology.
“Today’s launch of Air Orca marks a significant milestone, not only for India’s logistics sector but also for us as a company rooted in Odisha,” said Satyabrata Sathapathy, CEO of Bon V Aero. “Building this drone domestically allowed us to customize it for India’s unique needs. We’re grateful for Tim Draper’s support, which further amplifies our mission to extend Air Orca’s benefits across both civilian and defense sectors nationwide.”
Tim Draper praised the technology, stating, “It’s exciting to see Air Orca launch here in Odisha. Autonomous drones like this one provide practical solutions to modern logistics challenges, with use cases ranging from disaster response to high-altitude defense operations. Having just witnessed the impact of recent hurricanes in the U.S., I see Bon V Aero’s innovation as a vital tool for disaster response both in India and globally.”
Entirely developed and manufactured in India, Air Orca is designed to tackle diverse logistical needs, particularly in areas where traditional transportation is challenging. The drone is equipped to serve as a first responder, delivering emergency supplies in post-disaster scenarios and providing essential support during crises.
Bon V Aero has already set a world record as the first Indian company to lift a 30 kg payload at Umling La, Ladakh—the world’s highest motorable pass at 19,024 feet. According to Sathapathy, this feat surpasses the performance of helicopters, which face limitations at such extreme altitudes.
With ambitions to address logistics needs in sectors like healthcare, e-commerce, military operations, and disaster management, Bon V Aero aims to make Air Orca a global solution for reliable and efficient delivery in challenging environments.
